Statement on Attempts to Dismantle Prop 12

It’s outrageous that the pork industry is still trying to dismantle Prop 12, a law overwhelmingly supported by voters and upheld by the Supreme Court, just to preserve cruel, outdated practices like gestation crates. World Animal Protection has been a vocal proponent of Prop 12, and the fact that even this modest step forward is under attack shows just how deeply entrenched animal suffering is in our food system. Instead of fighting progress, industry leaders should be listening to the growing number of farmers and consumers demanding better. It’s time to move forward, not backward, toward a more humane and sustainable world for animals.
