The strike at the JBS meatpacking plant in Greeley underscores the deep flaws of the industrial meat system—one that harms workers, animals, and the environment alike. It is no surprise that a company built on the exploitation of animals, who are confined in crowded feedlots, subjected to stressful transport, and killed in violent slaughter, would also show little to no regard for the fair treatment of its employees. Industrial meat production is not only cruel; it is environmentally destructive, driving deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. This system is unsustainable for people, animals, and the planet. We urge policymakers, corporations, and consumers to support the transition to plant-based and alternative proteins and to prioritize the fair treatment of both human and non-human animals. Only by transforming our food system can we create one that is ethical, safe, and sustainable. We stand with all those who are exploited by JBS.
