We launched exciting campaign tactics to pressure Six Flags into releasing Joyce and the other four elephants to a sanctuary where they can retire in peace.
This World Elephant Day, we ramped up our campaign to free Joyce and the other four elephants from Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. From highway billboards to sand sculptures, we made sure Six Flags’ leadership team felt the pressure to do the right thing and shut down its elephant exhibit for good.
1. Two highway billboards near Six Flags
Less than 20 miles from the amusement park, we launched two highway billboards to call it out for keeping elephants in unnatural and unsafe conditions. Taking inspiration from some local NJ idioms, we are grabbing everyone’s attention—including Six Flags’ leadership!
Live in New Jersey? Both billboards are located on Route 9 with one facing north and the other facing south until September 1.
2. Joyce sand sculpture in Ventnor City
We partnered with local sand sculpture artists John and Laura Gowdy to raise awareness of our campaign—and reach the crowds along the Jersey Shore. Created on the beach off Ventnor Pier (one hour away from Six Flags), the sand sculpture brings Joyce’s story to life.
3. Handing out car bumper stickers and leaflets
We partnered with the Animal Protection League of New Jersey to hand out leaflets and free car bumper stickers at various events throughout the state.
4. Petition delivery to Six Flags
Last but not least, we delivered a petition to Six Flags! We currently have over 62,000 signatures, but our goal by the end of the year is to reach 100,000.
