Italian luxury designer Gucci’s latest ad campaign exploits captive tigers to sell fashion. In a misguided “celebration” of the Year of the Tiger, Gucci’s new campaign features tigers inside glamorous homes alongside human fashion models.
More tigers live in captivity in the US than remain in the wild. Hunting, habitat destruction, and the climate crisis coupled with their popularity as “pets” has pushed tigers to the brink of extinction. It’s reckless and dangerous for Gucci to use its considerable influence to promote tigers as pets and luxury items. Tigers, like all wild animals, belong in their natural habitats.
While the company claims that the tigers were photographed and filmed in a “separate safe environment,” there’s no humane way to use tigers as fashion props.
Help protect tigers by sending a message to Gucci asking them to stop using wild animals in their campaigns and issue a statement that tigers belong in the wild.
