Advocate for Laws in Your Community Banning the Sale of Wild Animals

Jump to action below

Every year, wild animals including turtles, lizards, snakes, parrots, monkeys, and otters are removed from their homes in the wild or intensively bred in captivity and sold as pets. Millions of animals are suffering as a result of the sale of wild animals for use as pets, and it’s also fueling our global biodiversity crisis.

Download World Animal Protection’s publication, “Banning Retail Sales of Wild Animals: A Toolkit for Animal Advocates” to learn how to advocate for a local law that prohibits the sale of wild animals like birds, reptiles, and amphibians in pet stores.

You’ll find everything you need to get started inside our toolkit, including:

  • Factsheets for your local legislators broken down by topic area
  • A guide to grassroots lobbying
  • Ideas for engaging others in your community

Local change matters, which is why we need your help! Make a difference by cutting off a major supplier of wild animals—pet stores.
