A new report by World Animal Protection reveals that more than a dozen major companies may be misleading their customers with false promises on the welfare of pregnant pigs in their pork-supply chains.
Of the 56 companies included in the Quit Stalling report that were previously praised for committing to source pork from suppliers that eliminate the cruel confinement of mother pigs in gestation crates, nearly one-third no longer have language in their public materials affirming their commitment.
Gestation crates are inhumane, causing physical and emotional suffering for pigs. Commitments by major companies signaled to the industry that the practice must end. But with so many companies falling behind, it is up to advocates and consumers, like you, to hold them accountable to their promises.
