These delicious plant-based hamburgers will satisfy your taste buds and help animals and the environment.

Every year in the US, about 33 million cows die in the meat industry. This means that on any given day, more than 90,000 living, sentient, beings known to have best friendslove their young, and be smart enough to escape slaughterhouses, are killed (often painfully and slowly) to make burgers and other products.

What’s more, factory farming accounts for a staggering 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions--more than all forms of motor transportation combined. About two-thirds of these emissions are attributed to cows raised for meat, due to the methane they produce, and the clearing of lands for grazing and growing feed for the animals.

So, on this International Hamburger Day, celebrate with us by choosing more sustainable (and delicious!) plant-based burger options that are kinder to animals and the environment.

Below are a few of our favorites, to make at home or find in restaurants nationwide.

1. Lekka Burger, created by James Beard-Nominated Chef Amanda Cohen ships its soy- and gluten-free vegan burgers nationwide.

These delicious burgers are made with vegetables, beans, and spices. Choose from a grill kit of 4 or 8 burgers, which come complete with vegan buns, vegan cheese and cheese sauce, pickles, and fries. You can also order 12 vegan patties to share with family and friends or freeze for an easy meal.

2. Black-owned Everything Legendary ships its soy-free, plant-based burger and cheese-burger patties and lightly seasoned ground nationwide.
