Lucy & Goober
Lucy, a long-haired spider monkey, and Goober, a black-handed spider monkey, came to Black Pine in 2013 from a primate rescue center, where they had been surrendered by their private owners. Sadly, their early lives as pets left them with lasting needs, so their caregivers steam most of their food to make it soft and easy to eat. Their menu includes a steamed produce mix, leafy greens, protein, and commercial biscuits.
When it comes to fun, Lucy loves carrying her blankets around with her and tossing big enrichment items that make a lot of noise. She’s a big fan of sensory and dietary enrichment, too, so there’s always something new for her to explore and enjoy.
Goober’s all-time favorite fun activity is playing with old coffee bags. He often rubs the scent of coffee all over his body. He’ll even place the bag over his head while making his happy noises.
