Once a year, we have an opportunity to disrupt Six Flags’s most important meeting. It worked.
Last month, Six Flags held its Annual General Meeting, and we used this as an opportunity to pressure the company and its investors to free Joyce and the other elephants from captivity. The meeting was fully virtual, but that didn’t stop us from finding ways to disrupt the meeting and ensure our voices were heard.
1. We asked supporters to submit “Investor Information Request” forms ahead of the meeting
On the company’s investor relations website, there was a form that you can submit to ask questions or comments regarding the company’s financial performance and future. We sent out an email to our supporters to fill out the form with messages such as:
- FREE JOYCE! It’s cruel to keep elephants in amusement parks!
- Shut down your elephant exhibit and send the animals to a sanctuary.
- Using animals for entertainment is bad business. Do the right thing and free Joyce now.
After less than 12 hours, Six Flags deactivated the form, indicating our campaign was not only heard but disruptive. The form is also no longer available on its website.
2. We sent vegan campaign cookies to Six Flags headquarters and multiple investor offices from New York to California
Because the meeting was fully virtual, we wanted to ensure our campaign action had a physical component. We sent a dozen cookies to Six Flags headquarters in North Carolina and multiple investors’ offices, including JANA Partners, the investment group partnered with celebrity Travis Kelce. Each order was sent with a campaign message urging investors to raise our concern for Joyce with Six Flags.

Stay tuned for additional campaign actions. World Elephant Day is coming up soon (August 12), and we have exciting plans in store. If you haven’t already, tell Six Flags to shut down its elephant exhibit and send Joyce and the other elephants to a sanctuary.
