Our Groupon Campaign Hits the Ground in Chicago!

We’re making our campaign heard in the Windy City, right at Groupon’s front door.

Our Groupon campaign is going strong. Since launching in March, together with our supporters, we’ve sent thousands of emails to Groupon’s CEO, protested outside of the CEO’s speaking engagement in NYC, and generated over 2,000 tweets targeting the company from our monthly Tweetstorms.

Our campaign isn’t going to stop until Groupon stops selling deals to cruel wildlife entertainment venues and agrees–wild animals are not ours for entertainment.

This month, we started raising awareness about our campaign on the ground in Chicago where Groupon is headquartered.

Here are some of our latest campaign actions in the Windy City.

1. Sidewalk chalk stencils

Starting August 1, we launched 100 sidewalk chalk stencils around Groupon’s offices. The stencils feature images of a captive dolphin, elephant, or chimpanzee and direct passersby to a website where they can get involved with the campaign.

If you live in Chicago and come across our stencils, please take a picture and tag @Groupon and @WorldAnimalProtectionUS on Instagram/Facebook (if you post on Twitter our handle is @MoveTheWorldUS) with the hashtag #DevastatingDeals to put even more pressure on the company’s leadership.

2. Northalsted Market Days

On Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6, we tabled at the Northalsted Market Days street festival to speak to Chicagoans about how Groupon profits from animal cruelty. We had passersby sign our petition, kids coloring postcards, and we also gave out free World Animal Protection swag.

Stay tuned for more! We’re planning something special for the fall.
