These businesses are helping show what a more compassionate future of food could look like.
1. Hey, Sunshine Kitchen
Sisters Heather and Jennie Goldberg founded this LA-based restaurant focused on colorful, comforting plant-based food. The vibe is casual and sunny, with meals designed to feel approachable and nourishing. It’s the kind of place that makes plant-based eating feel easy and fun!
2. Crossroads Kitchen
Chef Tal Ronnen has been a major force in upscale vegan dining for years. Through Crossroads Kitchen, he helped show that plant-based food could absolutely belongs in fine dining spaces.
Ronnen is also the author of The Conscious Cook and the Crossroads cookbook, a co-creator of Kite Hill, and a board member for Impossible Foods.
3. Isa Chandra Moskowitz
If you’ve spent time in the vegan world, there’s a good chance you’ve come across one of Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s cookbooks (my go-to is Isa Does It!). She’s been making plant-based cooking feel accessible, affordable, and unfussy for decades.
Isa is also the former host of the vegan cooking show “Post Punk Kitchen” and the founder of former vegan restaurant Modern Love.
4. Unreal Deli
Founder Jenny Goldfarb created Unreal Deli after wanting a plant-based version of the deli meats she grew up eating. The company now makes vegan corned beef, turkey, and steak slices that can be found in delis and grocery stores around the country.
5. Chunk Foods
Founded by Amos Golan, Chunk Foods focuses on plant-based steaks and meat alternatives made through fermentation technology.
Chunk Foods products have started appearing in restaurants and specialty retailers across the US, helping push plant-based meat beyond just burgers and nuggets.
6. Ben & Esther’s Vegan Jewish Deli
Owner Justin King took classic Jewish deli food and made it completely vegan—including lox, schmear, matzo ball soup, and brisket sandwiches.
What started as a Portland deli has expanded to multiple locations, proving there’s definitely demand for plant-based comfort food rooted in tradition!
7. MooShoes and Orchard Grocer
Sisters Erica and Sara Kubersky founded MooShoes, one of the first all-vegan, cruelty-free shops in New York City. They also opened Orchard Grocer right next door—a vegan deli known for stacked sandwiches, plant-based pantry staples, and some incredible vegan soft serve (that I’ve been known to hunt down every summer in NYC!).
