Ask IHOP to add a plant-based meat option

By expanding its food menu to include plant-based options, IHOP would give existing customers more choice while also attracting a new customer-base.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! However, one of the country’s most well-known breakfast establishments, International House of Pancakes (IHOP), doesn’t offer a plant-based meat option for customers looking to make a kind, healthy and sustainable start to their day.

More than two years ago, Dine Brands, the parent company of IHOP, committed to join the cage-free movement by sourcing 100 percent cage-free eggs. In light of this positive step to help improve the lives of farmed animals, IHOP should continue its journey by offering delicious plant-based meat options!

Currently, plant-based food options are limited to a handful of side dishes. By expanding its food menu to include a plant-based protein-packed breakfast sandwich or delicious meat alternative burger, IHOP would give existing customers more choice while also attracting a new customer-base. This simple change will allow so many more customers to enjoy a meal at one of IHOP’s more than 1,650 US-based restaurants.

The demand for plant-based meat

Sales of meat alternatives grew by 30% in 2018.

Plant-based foods are currently experiencing huge popularity as consumers look for more sustainable options. Sales of meat alternatives grew by 30% in 2018 and the global meat alternative market is expected to be worth a whopping $140 billion in just ten years.

Other national chains similar to IHOP are already responding to the consumer interest in plant-based alternatives: Denny’s recently announced a nationwide rollout of the plant-based Beyond Burger; Dunkin’ just added a Beyond Meat sausage patty as a permanent fixture to its menu with tremendous success; and Burger King rolled out the meatless Impossible Whopper to more than 7,000 stores.

It’s clear that consumer demand is shifting towards more sustainable foods, and now it’s time for IHOP to hop on board.

IHOP is listening to consumer requests, so please email the company and let them know that you’re ready for a plant-based sausage or burger to be added to the menu!

Subject: Please add a plant-based meat option

Dear IHOP,

As one of the country’s most well-known breakfast establishments, you should have at least one decent plant-based meat option for the most important meal of the day.

Plant-based foods are currently experiencing a huge wave of popularity as consumers like me look for more sustainable options. Sales of meat alternatives grew by 30% in 2018 and the global plant-based foods market is expected to be worth a whopping $140 billion in the next ten years.

Other national chains similar to IHOP have already diversified their protein offerings: Denny’s recently announced a nationwide rollout of the plant-based Beyond Burger; Dunkin’ just added a Beyond Meat sausage patty as a permanent fixture to its menu with tremendous fanfare; and Burger King rolled out the meatless Impossible Whopper to more than 7,000 stores.

It’s time for IHOP to hop on board. Please add a plant-based sausage or burger to your menu!

Sincerely,
[Your name]
